Original shot of the spider T07A3559.

This is a copy of the original photograph of a spider for unit 2. This was shot on a Canon 5D III and edited in Photoshop.

Spider crop

The first thing I did was to to crop the image so the spider was closer. As I cropped the image I wanted to make sure to use rule of thirds and crop the spider in a way that it looked as if it was crawling back into a dark shadow somewhere outside the photograph. I also wanted to bring the viewers attention closer to the spot where the spiders wed was being produced as it crawled along it’s web.

Spider curves

While adjusting the curves I wanted to eliminate any washout from the hard light overhead. I also wanted to avoid the making the spider to dark and losing any detail.

Spider Burn

There really wasn’t a need to dodge the image but I did do some burn. The burn was mainly confined to the belly of the spider where the light seemed to cast a glare and the darker background of the photograph to enhance that dark feeling.

Spider high pass

Next I wanted to do a high pass sharpening of the image.

Final product

The final product.
